In this episode, my guest is Lauren Van Der Veen founder of Zen Ren Design, a Los Angeles-based design firm that specializes in architectural design services and project management. Zen Ren Design focuses on "intentional living" by curating sacred interiors that explore the clients' rituals and integrate human psychology into the creation of bespoke spaces.
After being commissioned to renovate an estate in Malibu, California, Van Der Veen relocated from Chicago and continued her education at Woodbury University. This experience sparked her vision for Zen Ren Design, a firm that aims to help clients live more intentionally through thoughtful, personalized spaces.
Zen Ren Design incorporates elements of human psychology, such as rituals and spiritual practices, to create dimensional spaces that enhance the well-being of its clients. The firm activates interiors by incorporating nature and techniques like visioning, feng shui, and intention setting.
Lauren feels like she has a social responsibility. So when working with clients, she starts by asking them questions, such as what are the goals of this design? Do you want to have a concept? Are you sensitive to light? Are you a daytime person, or a nighttime person? Turns out, she and I are like 11 to 3 and I look forward to having that brunch with her in LA sometime soon to continue our conversation.
