Unlocking Creativity: How Psychedelics Are Influencing Modern Design
The connection between psychedelics and creativity is undeniable. Throughout history, visionary figures like Yoko Ono, Aldous Huxley, and Steve Jobs have left an indelible mark on the world, inspired by their psychedelic experiences.
While the influence of psychedelics on art is well-documented, their impact on design remains largely unexplored. Now, this is precisely where Psychedelics Design finds itself: not only examining what design can offer to a burgeoning psychedelic field but also exploring how psychedelics can inspire empathic design systems.

Unlocking Creativity: How Psychedelics Are Influencing Modern Design
Joe Moore, CEO of Psychedelics Today, speaking at the Psychedelics Design online event on July 11 about “The Great Reconnector: Designing Our Way Back Together with Psychedelics”
Ever since studying for my MSc in Psychology, I've been pondering a significant question around Psychedelics Design: Given that psychedelics can foster a profound sense of connectedness with nature, what might be their potential impact on design and the creative process? Floris Wolswijk from Blossom and I have been asking creative minds around us if and how psychedelic experiences have influenced not only their beliefs but also their process and work.
I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Tracy DeLuca, Henry Winslow, Jeff Salazar, Jannyl V Molina, Elysa Fenenbock, Carly Dutch-Greene, Hector Pottie, and special thanks also to Amanda Feilding for generously sharing their time and insights, allowing Floris and me to quote them for the article.
I'd also like to extend a deep thank you to the late Ken Jordan whose curious questions and encouragement were invaluable, and to Victoria Dekker for her support in refining the editorial and taking a chance on us. More below 💗
Unlocking Creativity: How Psychedelics Are Influencing Modern Design
It’s no secret that psychedelics and creativity are intrinsically linked. If you look around, you won’t have to go very far to find psychedelic-inspired byproducts from visionary figures whose work has changed the world, from Yoko Ono, to Aldous Huxley, to Steve Jobs.
While psychedelics’ impact on art is well-documented, the psychedelic influence on design remains largely unexplored, despite luminaries like Jobs attributing psychedelic experiences to shaping their design ethos.

“You likely can’t get too far into psychedelic exploration without feeling a deeper connection to nature. As we like to remind people in our work, everything is designed – by humans or by nature. And spoiler alert: humans are, in fact, just another expression of nature.” – Tracy DeLuca, founder of How Might We Design LLC and Elysa Fenenbock, founder of The School of Psychedelic Design
